Build Your Own Bamboo Fly Rod in a Week.

Now Limited to Four Classes Per Year!

Build your own heirloom split bamboo fly rod! Not only are you able to build a fine bamboo fly rod during your week here in Dunsmuir, you can also fish the Upper Sacramento River in the evenings.

We offer bamboo rodmaking classes with either one or two students. The student starts with a culm of bamboo on Monday, then I guide them through the building process, explaining the tricks to know and pitfalls to avoid along the way. By Friday, students will have a ferruled, gripped blank ready for wrapping.

Some of my faster students produce finished, ready-to-fish bamboo fly rods.

If you're interested in learning to build bamboo fly rods, then you can shave off hundreds of hours of trial-and-error and beat the learning curve. Or if you just think you'd like help making a special fishing rod you'll treasure forever, then this class is for you.

I'm now limiting classes to four per year; my rod waiting list keeps getting longer, and I need to keep up with demand.

If you are interested in crafting your own, hand-built bamboo rod that is destined to be handed down generation to generation, then call or email me for further details.

We can book a date, decide between one student or two, and talk about which taper you want to build. I guarantee you, the first fish you catch on a beautiful bamboo rod you built will be one you'll never forget.

Individual 6-day rod building class: $1950
Two students in a six-day class: $3450 (each)

"Thanks for a great experience. I've never learned so much and had such fun in the process. Your balance of letting me do it and stepping in when needed was just right. It assured the rod would turn out professionally and gave me the pride of building it myself. The rod is beautiful! I'm very satisfied and enthused about making another."
